
Agnes Szavay stepped up her bid to win a WTA Tour title on home soil when moved into the quarter-finals of the GDF Suez Grand Prix.
Szavay got the better of three tight sets against opponent Tathiana Garbin, winning 7-6 5-7 7-5 to set up a last eight meeting with qualifier Timea Bacsinszky.
Bacsinszky, also in comfortable surroundings as, despite representing Switzerland, both her parents are Hungarian, rebounded from a nightmare first set to beat Patricia Mayr 0-6 6-3 6-4.
Top seed Patty Schnyder had no problems disposing of Italy's Maria Camerin 6-3 6-2 while fifth seed Alisa Kleybanova was made to fight for her 4-6 6-4 6-4 win over Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.
