Bordeaux 2-0 Juventus

Bordeaux secured top spot in Champions League Group A tonight in a result which leaves Juventus in danger of elimination from Europe's elite competition.

Fernando headed Bordeaux into a 54th-minute lead and Marouane Chamakh made certain with a close-range stoppage-time second as the hosts extended their unbeaten run in the 2009-10 competition, with their only dropped points coming in the 1-1 draw at Juventus in September.

Diego fluffed a number of chances for 1996 champions Juve, who could yet be knocked out of the competition if they lose to 2001 winners Bayern Munich - 1-0 victors over Maccabi Haifa this evening - in Turin on December 8.

Bayern are one point behind the Italians and a win at Juventus would see them progress, with the losers joining 2005 winners Liverpool in dropping into the Europa League.

Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux were eager to bounce back from last weekend's shock 1-0 defeat to Valenciennes, their first loss at home in two years.

Chamakh headed over the crossbar after nine minutes and Jaroslav Plasil dragged a shot wide from 12 yards two minutes later as Bordeaux made the early running.

Benoit Tremoulinas' foul on Mauro Camoranesi presented Diego with an opportunity to fire in a free-kick from a dangerous position.

His ball from wide on the right found the head of defender Giorgio Chiellini, but he headed over from 12 yards.

Bordeaux then had a set-piece opportunity at the other end, with Wendel's inswinging corner finding Fernando, but he could only head wide.

Nicola Legrottaglie blocked Mathieu Chalme's 27th-minute shot as the hosts continued to have the better of the contest, before Diego's effort from the edge of the area at the other end was held by Cedric Carrasso.

Fabio Grosso blocked a Chamakh effort from 20 yards before Camoranesi's tussle with Tremoulinas continued.

The Italian World Cup winner was booked for his challenge on the Bordeaux defender, but Plasil's free-kick came to nothing as Gianluigi Buffon claimed the ball.

Chamakh forced Buffon into action soon after, with the Italy goalkeeper parrying the Moroccan's 12-yard shot away from danger.

Buffon saved from Yoan Gouffran as half-time approached, leaving the contest goalless at the interval.

Bordeaux took the lead nine minutes into the second period after Martin Caceres fouled Chamakh in a dangerous position on the left.

Plasil whipped in an inswinging ball and Fernando headed into the bottom corner from six yards.

Felipe Melo shot wide from 25 yards and Diego saw an effort saved by Carrasso as Juventus sought a quick reply.

Wendel shot off-target at the other end before Diego contrived to fire wide from six yards.

Diego then had an effort blocked by Tremoulinas and from the resulting corner Legrottaglie headed over from the centre of the penalty area.

Juventus' set-piece play continued to flounder, with Diego delivering some poor corners and rifling a long-range free-kick over the bar.

Bordeaux then made certain of victory in the third minute of stoppage time, when Wendel's cross was converted by Chamakh's six-yard header.
