Roberto Soldado grabbed a hat-trick as Getafe blitzed 10-man Xerex with five goals in the space of 17 minutes.
Artiles Aythami had headed Xerex in front in the 33rd minute, but the game turned dramatically in the space of two minutes just before half time.
Soldado scored his first in the 44th minute and moments later, David Prieto hauled down Daniel Parejo to earn a red card and give Soldado the chance to put Getafe ahead from the penalty spot.
The assault continued in the second half as Parejo made it 3-1 in the 57th minute before Soldado completed his hat-trick moments later.
Javi Casquero completed the scoring on the hour mark to leave Xerex reeling.
There was little life in the game in the opening half an hour, and certainly no sign of the fireworks to come, as neither side managed to create a chance.
The first sight of goal came in the 31st minute when Giancarlo Maldonado sent a shot wide of the right-hand post.
The visitors, struggling at the foot of the table, then came close again two minutes later when Mario Bermejo's shot forced a good save from Getafe goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
They got the breakthrough moments later when Aythami headed in from Emiliano Armenteros' cross.
The visitors continued to push, with Fabian Orellano shooting narrowly over the crossbar from the edge of the area.
But their afternoon began to unravel in a hurry in the 44th minute when Getafe scored the simplest of goals, Soldado tapping home from six yards after finding holes in the Xerex defence.
Only a minute later, the turnaround was complete with Soldado placing his penalty in the bottom right-hand corner of the net after Prieto's dismissal.
Xerex then had half time to catch their breath, but it did not seem to do them a whole lot of good.
Early in the second half, Daniel Cata Diaz sent a free-kick into the wall from a dangerous position as Getafe kept up the assault.
Parejo got the third in the 57th minute with another tap-in from close range, and 70 seconds later it was 4-1 as Soldado was left with a straightforward finish, completing his second hat-trick of the season after he grabbed one on the opening day of the season against Racing Santander.
Xerex looked punch drunk and the fifth came all too easily for Getafe in the 61st minute, with Pedro Leon crossing for Casquero to fire home.
That was a case of job done for Getafe, with neither side having another shot on goal as the final half-hour matched the first.
Getafe move up to ninth with the win, but Xerex and their freshly battered goal difference slump to the foot of the table.
