Tenerife came back from 3-0 down to claim a draw at Real Valladolid and secure their first away point of the season.
The Pucela had appeared to be on their way to a convincing victory - and only their second at home this season - when two goals from Diego Costa and a penalty by Fabian Canobbio saw them ease into a 3-0 lead with 27 minutes to go.
However, two goals in eight minutes from Francisco Nino and Rodriguez Angel set up a nervy finish for Valladolid and Garcia Ayoze pounced four minutes from time to stun the hosts.
Tenerife, who had scored just one away goal before today, even had Ezequiel Luna sent off for managing to accrue two bookings in the final three minutes but it was of no consequence.
Diego Costa issued a warning in just the eighth minute when he unleashed a fierce 25-yard shot which was tipped round the post by Tenerife goalkeeper Sergio Aragoneses.
The keeper was soon called on again when he punched clear Viera Nauzet Aleman's cross as the hosts made their attacking intentions clear from the off.
Alejandro Alfaro had two efforts on target as Tenerife started making some attacking inroads, a 20-yard shot which was blocked by Fernandez Borja.
Seconds later the same player had his header from Hens Juanlu's corner comfortably saved by Valladolid keeper Justo Villar.
However, the hosts were ahead in the 28th minute when Borja played the ball from his own half with Diego Costa sending a right-footed shot into the net.
Jose Luis Mendilibar's side threatened Tenerife's goal again when Nauzet sent in a free-kick from the left which Aragoneses was forced to punch clear.
However, Valladolid did double their lead 10 minutes from half-time when a penalty was awarded after Manolo Martinez fouled Canobbio.
The Uruguayan midfielder took the spot kick himself, sending the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Canobbio then put further pressure on the Tenerife goal with a 30-yard free-kick which forced Aragoneses to punch the ball away and the visitors will have been relieved to reach half-time.
Valladolid started the second half in the same vein with Canobbio constantly involved.
With just two minutes of the second period gone, the midfielder sent in an outswinging corner from the left which was met by Alberto Manucho with Aragoneses tipping the Angola forward's header round the post.
Canobbio then sent in a shot from 25 yards which hit the bar and it was little surprise when Valladolid went 3-0 up in the 50th minute.
Again it was Diego Costa who headed home from a Nauzet corner and the match appeared to be over with little evidence the visitors could produce any kind of response.
However, Tenerife did pull a goal back in the 63rd minute through Nino's right-footed shot for only their second away goal of the season.
Rodriguez Angel sent a shot over the bar as the visitors rallied and the same player then reduced the deficit further with just under 20 minutes to go when he converted from close range.
The game had turned on its head and it was all Tenerife, Ayoze and Nino both attempting shots.
And with just four minutes to go Tenerife pulled level, Ayoze heading home Nino's cross from close range to stun the Nuevo Estadio José Zorrilla.
Tenerife were then reduced to 10 men when Luna was sent off after receiving his second yellow card but it did not affect the visitors who claimed a famous draw.
