Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Kolo Toure could be sold to Manchester City and has pointed to the cover he has in central defence to cope without the Ivorian.
It is understood that a £14 million transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs, with Toure now expected to return from Arsenal's pre-season tour of Austria and Germany.
Toure played for Arsenal last night in a pre-season friendly but, after Manchester City missed out on John Terry, looks increasingly likely to become Mark Hghes's latest big signing.
"We will see what's happening in the next 24 hours, nothing is decided yet," said Wenger. "We have seven centre-backs and I am in the position where I have to play some in midfield but of course Kolo is a very good player and we will see what will happen in the next 24 hours."
If Toure does sign it would take City boss Hughes' spending close to £100 million mark. He will also now attempt to recruit Everton and England defender Joleon Lescott.
Arsenal have made one signing, central defender Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax, and have also sold Emmanuel Adebayor to City for £25 million.
Wenger, though, suggested that he will make more signings before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
"I am more focused on getting everybody fit for the start of the season but we are looking at opportunities as well, there are still some pre-season games to see what we really need," he said. "When the time comes we will do something."
