DFB-Pokal Saturday Review

Germany striker Lukas Podolski scored for Cologne in a 3-0 win over minnows Emden in the first round of the DFB Pokal.

Podolski, who rejoined the club from Bayern Munich this summer, was playing the first competitive match of his second spell with Cologne.

He rounded off the scoring two minutes from full-time after Youssouf Mohamad and Wilfried Sanou had scored either side of the interval.

Borussia Monchengladbach won 2-1 at Frankfurt in an all-Bundesliga clash.

Juan Arango (28) and Roberto Colautti (59) gave the visitors the lead before Junior Ross pulled one back.

Hertha Berlin needed extra-time to win 3-1 at Preussen Munster.

After Patrick Ebert's own goal cancelled out Hertha's opener through Rafael De Araujo, the match went to extra-time with Valeri Domovchiyski (118) and Rafael's second (120) securing victory.

Borussia Dortmund overcame a late comeback effort by SpVgg Weiden to win 3-1.

After Lucas Barrios and Nuri Sahin gave them a 2-0 lead by the 46th minute, Weiden's Mendez pulled one back with 12 minutes to go.

However, Dortmund held firm and Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan rubber-stamped the win by scoring in added time.

Nurnberg comfortably moved into the next round with a 3-0 win at Dynamo Dresden.

Freiburg won 2-0 at Elversberg with goals from Heiko Butscher and Stefan Reisinger.
