FC Twente continued their impressive start to the Eredivisie campaign with a narrow victory over RKC Waalwijk.
Bryan Ruiz and Blaise Nkufo were on target in a one-sided first half to help Twente to their third win of the season.
RKC, who have now failed to secure a single point in four league games, replied through Charlison Benschop in an otherwise dour second half.
Twente's Kenneth Perez forced a fine early save from Jurgen Wevers as the home side made a strong start that put RKC on the defensive.
The pressure told in the 23rd minute when they opened the scoring, Perez crossing to Ruiz who easily beat Wevers to find the bottom-right corner of the net.
Four minutes later Twente extended their lead when Nkufo drove home from the centre of the penalty area before Perez nearly headed in the third on the stroke of half-time.
RKC started the second half brightly with Ruud Berger going close but they only had to wait until the 59th minute to get on the scoresheet.
Shkodran Metaj provided the cross from the right wing for Benschop to convert in the bottom-right corner.
Play became far more even as Twente, managed by former England coach Steve McClaren, surrendered their first-half control amid a disappointing midfield battle.
Twente mustered the last meaningful shot in the 63rd minute through Dario Vujicevic but the attempt sailed off-target.
But the hosts had already done enough to move onto 10 points from four games and finish the day second in the standings, behind Feyenoord - 4-0 winners against Roda JC - on goal difference.
