Floyd Mayweather vehicle searched after Las Vegas shooting

The Las Vegas police department searched boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr's Rolls-Royce at his home in the city on Monday after witnesses had reported it was involved in a shooting outside an ice skating rink on Sunday night.

Lt. Patrick Charoen said Monday that police had obtained a warrant to search the vehicle at one of Mayweather's homes in Nevada after the shooting late Sunday night outside the Crystal Palace Skating Center.

There were no casualties in the shooting, but a vehicle was hit with several bullets between 10pm and 11pm local time. Police have not suggested Mayweather is a suspect.

However, Floyd Mayweather Senior, the boxer's father, claimed that the police had turned the house upside down looking for a gun, but that none was found.

Mayweather Snr insisted his son had nothing to do with the shooting, and had merely been taking his children to the skating rink.

In August last year, a publicist for the boxer claimed a burglar had broken into one of his Las Vegas homes and stole $7 million worth of jewelry.

Mayweather issued a $100,000 cash reward for information leading to the return of the property. The suspects broke into a bedroom window and entered while Mayweather was out of the house.

The 32-year-old Mayweather is scheduled to fight a welterweight contest on Sept19 against Juan Manuel Marquez, in his second career come back, after returning to the ring to stop Ricky Hatton in December 2007.

Mayweather was due on Monday night to be the latest celebrity guest host of WWE Monday Night Raw. The boxer, reputed to be one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, made a surprise appearance and beat the giant wrestler Big Show at WrestleMania XXIV in March 2008.

A spokesman for the Las Vegas Police Department told Telegraph Sport: "Details are very sketchy. Our officers are currently serving search warrants to determine the facts in the case and a statement will be made public when that is complete."
