Kevin Pietersen’s achilles injury has ruled him out of the $6million Twenty20 Champions League in October.
Pietersen’s name was missing on Thursday from the 20-man list provided to the Champions League organisers by his IPL franchise, the Bangalore Royal Challengers.
He will now have to wait until England’s tour to South Africa in November to make his return to cricket after surgery on his heel last month.
Pietersen would have faced criticism if he had chosen to risk his fitness in the Champions League and the England management will have been keen for him to skip the trip to India.
Paul Collingwood and Owais Shah were both selected by the Delhi Daredevils but Collingwood admitted on Wednesday he was still unsure if he would play in the tournament.
Marcus Trescothick was chosen Somerset and has until Sept 7, when the squads are trimmed to 15, to decide if he wants to make the trip.
