Chez Reavie was forced to take part of a three-way lead at the Wyndham Championship after missing a 15-footer on the 18th green.
Severe weather meant 78 players were left on the course when play was finally abandoned for the day after four hours of delays, with Reavie alongside Brandt Snedeker and Ryan Moore at the head of the those who finished.
All three carded six-under-par rounds of 64, with Moore turning in a flawless round with six birdies, but Reavie could rue his bogey at the final hole where a hold putt would have saw him sign for a 63.
Englishman Justin Rose is one stroke further back on five under alongside Kevin Streelman and Colt Knost.
Eight players returned rounds of 66, Fred Couples and John Daly among them.
A total of 18 players finished over par, with Jason Gore the back marker on eight over.
