Nurnberg 0-1 VfL Bochum

Frank Heinemann secured his first win as Bochum coach thanks to Diego Klimowicz's early strike at Nurnberg.

Heinemann, who took over after Marcel Koller was sacked on Sunday, lost his first match in charge - a 3-0 defeat to Schalke in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday - but today's game was his first in the Bundesliga.

And his side gave him just the reaction he had called for, protecting the lead they gained through Klimowicz's early tap-in for their second win of the season.

The new coach could not have hoped for a better start to his first league game.

Paul Freier crossed from the right and ball ended up in the six-yard box at the feet of Klimowicz, who had an open goal to tap the ball into.

But it was the hosts who had the better chances for the rest of the first half.

Ilkay Gundogan tested Bochum goalkeeper Andreas Luthe with a bending effort from the left, which the shot stopper turned around his post.

And Luthe pulled off an excellent save nine minutes before the break, flinging himself to his left and turning the ball over the bar after Eric Choupo-Moting unleashed a curling effort goalwards from the left channel.

Bochum came back into the game as an attacking force six minutes after the break when Mimoun Azaouagh drilled a free-kick from 25 yards just over the bar.

Bochum had further chances to extend their lead, the best falling to Joel Epalle, who drilled an effort wide from 10 yards.
