Nurnberg 1-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Peer Kluge scored the only goal early in the first half as Nurnberg soaked up the pressure to defeat Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kluge pounced after six minutes to put the home side ahead, and despite the visitors having more of the ball they could not turn their possession into a clear-cut chances to claim an equaliser.

Marek Mintal and Christian Eigler both played a part in the opening goal.

Mintal's pass found Eigler and his cross into the middle was met by a volley by Kluge whose effort gave visiting goalkeeper Christofer Heimeroth no chance.

Despite their dominance the visitors did not threaten the Nurnberg goal effectively enough and they had to wait until five minutes before the break for their best chance of the first period.

Jean-Sebastien Jaures set up Roberto Colautti in the 18-yard area but he failed to make the most of the chance, heading the ball over the bar from close range.

A minute into the second half Raul Marcelo Bobadilla wasted a good chance to get the equaliser as he shot from 15 yards across the face of goal and out for a goal kick.

Nurnberg created an opening but Mintal blazed his effort over the bar after receiving possession 10 yards from goal.

With time running out substitute midfielder Marco Reus was closing on goal when he was denied by goalkeeper Raphael Schafer who came out bravely to claim the ball at his feet.
