Siena and Chievo both struck the woodwork in the dying seconds of their Serie A clash at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after a game of few clear-cut chances sprang to life at the last.
Aside from an early penalty appeal for handball against Siena's Daniele Ficagna and Simone Vergassola's poor 83rd-minute miss, there was little for either set of fans to get excited about in the final third for the majority of the match.
That changed moments before the whistle came, with first Sergio Pellissier and then Paul Codrea striking the post as the stalemate threatened to be broken.
Things started promisingly, with Mario Yepes calling for a penalty after only six minutes when Ficagna appeared to handle.
The referee was not interested and despite Yepes' enthusiastic appeals, television replays suggested that the decision was correct and Ficagna had headed the ball.
Michele Fini created Siena's first scoring chance four minutes later, taking possession and fashioning a shooting opportunity from the edge of the area.
His strike appeared to be on target but a deflection ensured the result would only be a corner, which was safely cleared.
Chievo were next to break, catching their opponents committing too many men forward and counter-attacking with four on four.
Luciano made headway on his way to the home goal before crossing for Pellissier, who succeeded in shaking off the attentions of Simone Bentivolglio, only for goalkeeper Gianluca Curci to dash out from his line and clear the danger.
Chievo began to enjoy marginally better possession but, although they appeared more likely than Siena to make something happen, they frequently lacked the final ball.
Luciano did well after 37 minutes, testing Curci with a measured effort but the goalkeeper was up to the challenge and pulled off a smart reflex save.
Massimo Maccarone finally created something for the home side when he served up a perfect pass for Vergassola but the finish was not up to the same standard and the ball flew wide of the post.
Stefano Sorrentino prevented Chievo falling behind after 54 minutes when he raced to punch clear a Vergassola cross intended for Maccarone.
Siena continued to look more comfortable and with 62 minutes gone Abdelkader Ghezzal just missed with a hopeful effort from distance.
By the final quarter it looked like any goal was sure to come from the hosts, with Chievo's early control of the midfield area now gone and Ghezzal coming to life for Siena.
Ghezzal it was who laid on a gilt-edged chance for Vergassola, wonderfully finding his team-mate in space right in front of goal with seven minutes to play.
Amazingly, though, Vergassola missed the easiest of tapped finishes in what appeared to be the last meaningful action of the half.
But there was more to come.
First Pellissier rose to meet a 90th-minute corner, beating Curci with his angled header but seeing the woodwork deflect his goal-bound effort away from danger.
Then, with the game in stoppage time, Codrea almost had the last word, drilling in a low shot from 30 yards which beat Sorrentino far too easily but could not creep inside the post.
