Werder Bremen 0-0 Hannover

Werder had the better of a Bundesliga game of few chances - but had to settle for a goalless draw at home to Hannover.

Florien Fromlowitz, making only his 11th appearance for the Reds, was the busier goalkeeper - but the Germany Under-21 international was not to be beaten.

Hannover had the game's first chance - and what proved to be their only one - after six minutes when Jiri Stajner's 20-yard effort was well saved by Tim Wiese.

Four minutes later and the home side threatened when Claudio Pizarro saw his header from Mesut Ozil's corner blocked well on the line by Hannover midfielder Sofian Chahed.

There was plenty of commitment but little goalmouth activity in the remainder of the first half as Andreas Bergmann's side continued to stifle Werder.

However, the home side started the second half strongly and just two minutes after the restart Per Mertesacker's header from Ozil's corner brought another save out of Fromlowitz.

Werder continued to be the most likely team to make the breakthrough and in the 53rd minute Marko Marin tried his luck from long-range. However, Fromlowitz - playing because first-choice Robert Enke was ill - was again equal to the effort.

Midway through the half Pizarro saw a shot saved by Fromlowitz and frustration grew among the home support in the 24,000 crowd.

However, Werder were unable to secure the morale-boosting win they needed ahead of Thursday's Europa League opener in Portugal against Nacional.
