Second seed Marion Bartoli reached the third round of the HP Open in Osaka with a straightforward win over Kurumi Nara.
The Frenchwoman, ranked 12th in the world, had no trouble despatching her wild card opponent 6-1 6-1 despite Nara having home support in Japan.
Francesca Schiavone, the fourth seed, overcame a second-set whitewash to advance with a 6-3 0-6 6-3 victory over Chan Yung-Jan of Taiwan.
Melinda Czink, the seventh-seeded Hungarian, beat American Vania King 6-4 6-2 while Sania Mirza, of India, beat Ukraine's Viktoriya Kutuzova 6-4 6-3.
