National Hocley League Review

Mike Richards scored a hat-trick to inspire the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-5 overtime victory over the Washington Capitals.

Richards struck three times in the second period to put the Flyers 4-3 in front, but Washington, for whom Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Semin claimed two goals apiece, levelled the contest at 5-5 by the end of the third.

Danny Briere converted a rebound to grab Philadelphia's winner three minutes 52 seconds into overtime to stretch his side's winning run to three games.

The Calgary Flames had Eric Nystrom to thank for their 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens after the young forward scored twice.

Scott Gomez and Guillaume Latendresse scored after Nystom's opener to put Montreal 2-1 up at the end of the first period, but Nystom's second and a Jarome Iginla effort restored Caglary's lead before Tomas Plekanec made it 3-3 by the end of the middle sector.

Flames defenceman Staffan Kronwall hit the winner two minutes 16 seconds into the third period as his side continued their unbeaten start.

The Minnesota Wild came from three goals down going into the third period to beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 thanks to an overtime winner from Andrew Brunette.

Mikko Koivu, Petr Sykora and Eric Belanger earlier scored for the Wild to cancel out goals from Joffrey Lupul, Evgeni Artyukhin and Saku Koivu which looked to have assured Anaheim the victory.

Ales Hemsky scored the shootout winner as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 4-3, while the game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning also went the distance, Carolina finally triumphing 2-1 with Sergei Samsonov and Tuomo Ruutu registering in the shootout.

The Los Angeles Kings were 6-4 winners over the San Jose Sharks, despite Devin Setoguchi's double, while the Ottawa Senators beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1.
