UAE league defending champions Al Ahli continued their disappointing form this season as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of newcomers Bani Yas in round four of the league on Friday.
The defeat was the third loss for Al Ahli this season and they are now second bottom in 11th, just one place ahead of the bottom spot while Bani Yas climbed to fourth with eight points.
Bani Yas owe their win to Malian striker Modibo Diara who scored the only goal on the night after 21 minutes to give his side their second win this season.
Elsewhere, Al Wahda climbed to the top of the standings following their 4-1 win against Al Shabab who suffered their third defeat in the league.
Al Wahda's win came thanks to an impressive performance from last year's top scorer Fernando Baiano who scored a hat-trick on the night to give his side their third win.
Al Wahda fell behind after 23 minutes when Mohamad Nasser followed a cross from Brazilian striker Christiano Pedrao with a powerful shot past Al Wahda goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani.
However, Al Wahda levelled the scores five minutes later when Fahad Masoud made his way through Al Shabab defenders before passing to Baiano who scored easily.
Al Wahda took the lead on 53 minutes when Baiano scored from a spot-kick just seconds after Al Shabab defender Abdulla Darwish was sent off before Andre Luciano Pinga made it 3-1 on 61 minutes.
Baiano completed his hat-trick when he received a pass from Mahmoud Khamis before firing a powerful shot from inside the area with 13 minutes remaining.
The fourth round will be concluded on Saturday as Ajman take on Emirates while Al Jazira host Al Ain in the top match of the round.
