Leinster 39 Scarlets 7

The Heineken Cup game between Leinster and Scarlets at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds on Saturday Dec 19 2009.

British Lions trio Rob Kearney, Gordon D'Arcy and Brian O'Driscoll grabbed a brace of tries while Shane Horgan also crossed at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds.

Full-back Kearney set the ball rolling with the opening score on seven minutes before adding a second for the rampant hosts in the 22nd minute as the reigning kings of Europe put the Welsh region to the sword.

Wing Horgan rounded off a perfect first half with a long-range intercept try from Deacon Manu's pass before doubles for centre pair D'Arcy and O'Driscoll sealed a convincing display.

Now Leinster face a straight fight with London Irish to reach the latter stages from Pool Six.

No 8 Jamie Heaslip said: "We came into these games looking for ten points and we've done it. It's great for us and we're back in the hunt. We got good, quick ball and went through the phases which they struggled with.

"We didn't talk about last week at all because we didn't want to get carried away.

"We found good space and we were clinical with our finishing. But there are still things we can work on."

Leinster romped into a 15-0 interval lead but none of the tries were converted as a swirling wind in the Irish capital was making kicking for stand-in fly-half Shaun Byrne difficult.

But the job in hand was to gain five points and the all-important bonus-point were secured in the 45th minute when centre D'Arcy touched down for his double.

Leinster showed their clincial edge with a fifth score on 56 minutes from talisman O'Driscoll pounced for his first before D'Arcy added a sixth two minutes later.

Rhys Priestland scored a consolation try for the visitors after a neat chip and chase beat Kearney but O'Driscoll scored a seventh try as the Scarlets saw their hopes of qualifying left hanging by a thread.
