Stephen Maguire booked his place in the semi-finals of the UK Championship on Wednesday night with a 9-5 victory over plucky qualifier Peter Lines in Telford.
The world number two was 6-2 up after the first session and looked set for a comfortable victory when he won the first frame of Wednesday night's session.
But Lines, who had reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event only once previously in his career at the 1999 China Open, was not finished.
Having dumped Mark Williams out of the event with a 9-8 victory in the previous round, Lines proceeded to win three frames in a row to close to 7-5.
However, Maguire rolled in a century break of 108 in frame 13 and wrapped up victory at the first opportunity.
The Scot, who is playing despite the death of his grandfather last weekend, will face either Ali Carter or Ding Junhui in the last four.
The pair went into the evening session tied at 4-4 and could still not be separated six frames later.
