
Nine-time UAE League champions Al Ain climbed to the third place in the UAE league standings following their late 1-0 win against Emirates in round nine of the league.
Al Ain claimed their fifth win this season to get their 17th point while Emirates remained in 11th place of the 12-team league standing with only six points.
Emirates were reduced to 10 men on 41 minutes when Mohamad Ali was received his second yellow card of the night before Brazilian midfielder Marcio Emerson scored the only goal for Al Ain in the last minute of the game.
In the other match, 10-man Al Wasl defeated Ajman 2-1 to climb to the fifth place with 14 points.
Al Wasl were reduced to 10 men after only 16 minutes as their Omani defender Mohamad Al Shaiba was sent off but Al Wasl managed to open the scoring on 38 minutes through their Brazilian Alexander Oliveira.
Al Wasl's other Brazilian Douglas Dos Santos doubled the lead for his side seven minutes into the second half before Ajman scored their consolation with six minutes remaining through Mubarak Salem.
The round will be continued on Tuesday as Al Sharjah will meet Al Dhafra while leaders Al Jazira will play against defending champions Al Ahli in the top match of the round.
