Hertha Berlin picked up only their second victory of the season by completing the double over Hannover.
Lukasz Piszczek and Raffael netted within three minutes to make it 2-0 after 33 minutes, with Theofanis Gekas rounding off the scoring 10 minutes from time.
The result would have been even worse for the home side had Florian Fromlowitz not saved a late Cicero penalty.
Hertha beat Hannover at home in their first game of the campaign and finally bagged their second win to move onto nine points - still eight points short of a safe spot.
Hannover dropped to 15th place as their winless run extended to six games. They have not won since the suicide of their goalkeeper Robert Enke in November.
The visitors nearly grabbed the lead after just three minutes. Florian Kringe sent a fine ball through to Adrian Ramos but the Colombian's left-footed shot went just wide of the far post.
Hannover went close 20 minutes later with Jiri Stajner feeding Didier Ya Konan, who beat Levan Kobiashvilli and Berlin goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny only for Steve von Bergen to make a last-ditch clearance.
Hertha took the lead on the half-hour mark. A corner from the left landed in the path of Piszczek, who hammered past Hannover goalkeeper Fromlowitz from 14 yards.
The guests doubled their advantage three minutes later after a punt by Fromlowitz arrived at Cicero. The ball was pushed forward quickly to Ramos, who fed Raffael on the right and the Brazilian's effort found Fromlowitz's far corner.
New Hertha acquisition Gekas fired over the bar midway through the second half, but ended all doubts about the result 10 minutes from the end.
The Greek striker picked up on a loose ball and blasted past Fromlowitz from 10 yards for his first goal since October 24, 2008.
Hertha could have extended their lead still further with six minutes left but Fromlowitz kept out Cicero's penalty after Jan Durica had fouled Ramos in the area.
