Barcelona dropped points at home for the first time in La Liga this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal at the Nou Camp.
Pep Guardiola's side showed off the six trophies they had won in 2009 prior to the game in what was intended to be an evening of celebration for the Catalan club in their first match of the year.
And they looked to be on their way when Pedro, who scored in all six of those competitions, opened the scoring after just seven minutes.
But the Yellow Submarine failed to read the script and David Fuster levelled for the visitors within six minutes of the restart.
Guardiola's league leaders can now be joined on 40 points at the summit by fierce rivals Real Madrid, who visit Osasuna tomorrow.
Earlier this evening, Nikola Zigic was the hero as Valencia snatched a last-gasp 1-0 victory over plucky Espanyol in the first match of 2010 in La Liga.
Espanyol frustrated the home side for long periods and looked good for a point as the game moved into stoppage time.
But Zigic, a second-half substitute, headed a dramatic late winner to move Los Che provisionally into third place.
They held onto that position when Sevilla went down 2-1 at Atletico Madrid in the late kick-off.
Renato put Manolo Jimenez's side in front a minute before the break but it all went horribly wrong for the visitors after the interval.
Ivica Dragutinovic put through his own net to level matters three minutes after the restart and they were reduced to 10 men 18 minutes from time when Aldo Duscher was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Atletico captain Antonio Lopez then compounded Sevilla's misery by heading home a dramatic winner with virtually the last touch of the game.
