Fernando Verdasco cruised to a 7-5 6-3 victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the Kooyong Classic.
The Spaniard was solid in windy conditions while Tsonga's long list of unforced errors let the Frenchman down when it mattered most.
The opening set was relatively tight but Verdasco asserted his authority in the second, racing to a 4-0 lead despite the swirling winds.
Tsonga then fought back with a break of his own to move to 2-4 but Verdasco steadied, allowing Tsonga only one more service game.
The win is a boost for Verdasco's Australian Open chances after his golden run at last year's tournament ended when he bowed out in the semi-finals to countryman and eventual winner, Rafael Nadal.
