DFB-Pokal Wednesday Review

Bayern Munich survived a scare before booking their place in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

Bayern went ahead with an early goal from Thomas Muller, but their Bavarian rivals turned the game around before the interval with goals from Christopher Nothe and Sami Allagui giving them a 2-1 half-time lead.

A few choice words from Bayern coach Louis van Gaal clearly did the trick as a penalty from Arjen Robben was followed by goals from Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm, Muller's second, and an Allagui own goal, making it look a lot easier than it was for Bayern to join Werder Bremen in the last four.

There, they could meet another Bavarian opponent after Augsburg stunned Cologne to cause the biggest upset of the semi-finals.

Michael Thurk and Nando Rafael gave the second division high-flyers their first ever appearance in the last four of the competition, where they are the only non-Bundesliga side.

Schalke became the third top-flight club in the semi-finals when they saw off giant-killers Osnabruck, who had accounted for Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund in the last two rounds.

A Kevin Kuranyi goal on the hour mark was enough for the Royal Blues to complete an attractive line-up to determine which two teams will book a date in Berlin in May.

Wednesday's draw pitted Felix Magath's Schalke against his former club Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.

In the other last-four clash, Werder Bremen will meet the only remaining non-Bundesliga side, Augsburg.

The final will be played in Berlin on May 15.
