Howard blitz sinks the Pistons

Dwight Howard played a starring role as the Orlando Magic trounced the Detroit Pistons 116-91 in the NBA .

Howard poured in a season-high 33 points and had 17 rebounds for the second-placed Magic, ensuring Richard Hamilton's 36-point haul for the Pistons was in vain.

The Utah Jazz, third in the Western Conference, saw off the New Orleans Hornets 98-90. Paul Millsap led the victors with 24 points.

Amar'e Stoudemire put aside trade rumours to score 30 points for the Phoenix Suns, but it was not enough to extend their five-game winning streak on the road as Dirk Nowitzki's 28 points powered the Dallas Mavericks to a 107-97 win.

The Miami Heat recovered from the early loss to a calf injury of All-Star MVP Dwyane Wade to edge the New Jersey Nets 87-84. Michael Beasley had 23 points as the Heat posted a season-high fourth consecutive win.

CJ Watson netted a career-high 40 points as the Golden State Warriors, second bottom of the Western Conference, registered only their second win in 12 games on Wednesday night with a thumping 130-98 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

A 28-point display from Tony Parker guided the San Antonio Spurs to a 90-87 triumph at the Indiana Pacers, while the Houston Rockets ran out 127-99 winners at the Milwaukee Bucks.

Elsewhere, the Memphis Grizzlies prevailed 109-102 at the Toronto Raptors, the Washington Wizards beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-99 and the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 110-92.
