HSBC Women's Champions Day 1

The best quotes from the leading golfers at the HSBC Women's Champions after the first round in Singapore.

"Well these girls are good. You can't let your guard down and you have to continue to make birdies and improve. Last week, Suzann (Pettersen) played awesome, and then Ai (Miyazato) shoots 63 on the last day (to win the tournament). Anybody is capable any given day and that's what makes golf so much fun."
- Co-leader Angela Stanford on the cluster of players recording under-par scores on the first day at the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore.

"I think I have a good opportunity to win the tournament, but that means that I need to do four rounds in the 60s, and then not make any more mistakes."
- World number one Lorena Ochoa making a confident statement after she joined three others in a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

"Just keep doing what I'm doing. I know it's kind of boring to say that, but you know, the more boring you can be in golf, the better off you'll be."
- Cristie Kerr on how she managed to keep her scores low. She recorded 4-under-par 68 to join Stanford, Ochoa and Park Hee Young at the top of the leaderboard.

"It's very exciting after one round, and then too much - the more I keep trying for ... perfect shots, (there will be) more pressure on me. So this week, I'm going to take a break, rest and do more stretching and exercising to help my swing."
- Surprise Day 1 co-leader Park Hee Young on how she intents to 'tune down' this week. She won the Pro-Am by 12 shots.

"I felt I hit a lot of good shots out there. Just need to make a couple more putts and keep hitting my irons good."
- Michelle Wie, who made two bogeys at the last two holes to make even-par 72.

"It's great. I'm just so grateful to have such a fan base, and they are awesome out there."
- Wie on her suppporters.

"Today was actually very much a roller coaster day. I don't remember what it was, I remember I was furious. On the second hole, I kicked my bag about three times on the putting green and then I just finally started to stroke a lot better. It's amazing what rage can do to a person."
- The colourful Christina Kim reveals how she motivated herself after hitting a bogey at the 2nd hole.

"Just do the best I can and take one shot at a time. We will try to focus on that and then we'll see how it goes."
- Reigning Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year Anna Nordqvist after her first round of 1-over-par 73. It's her first time playing in Singapore.

"Yeah (I'm going to) try and get this new move down. I'm resequencing my hips. I've been an upper-body swinger since I was 12 and started the game and now I'm trying to get my lower body to work the way it's supposed to."
- Look out for the brand-new Katherine Hull swing on Friday. She finished the first round 1-under-par 71.

"Just drink lots of water and try to eat a little bit as you go along, but it is hot."
- Juli Inkster on the infamous Singapore weather. She finished the day at 2-under-par 70.

"Yeah I don't know how I did it last year."
- 2009 Women's British Open champion Catriona Matthew when asked how she managed to play at last year's HSBC event while pregnant.
