Potito Starace out in Santiago

Eighth seed Potito Starace lost in the first round of the Movistar Open in Santiago.

The Italian lost 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 to Australian Peter Luczak, a player just nine places behind him in the world rankings at number 73.

In more early action, Spain's Marcel Granollers benefited from the retirement of his Argentinian opponent, Martin Vassallo Arguello.

Vassallo Arguello had taken the first set 6-4, but he conceded the match once Granollers drew level by taking the next 6-3.
