PSV Eindhoven 3-2 Hamburg

Hamburg came from behind to progress to the Europa League's last 16 on away goals after a pulsating contest at PSV Eindhoven.

PSV swiftly brought the last-32 contest level with a second-minute strike from Ola Toivonen and Balazs Dzsudzsak netted a long-range free-kick to put the hosts in front on aggregate before half-time.

But Hamburg netted a valuable away goal in the first minute after the restart when Mladen Petric's deft chip went in and Dzsudzsak was then dismissed for two yellow cards in a matter of moments, handing the initiative to the visitors.

Guy Demel was sent off for Hamburg, but the Bundesliga side then levelled on the night from a Piotr Trochowski penalty after 78 minutes to go 3-1 up on aggregate.

Danny Koevermans headed in after 89 minutes but Hamburg held on to set up a last-16 clash with Anderlecht.

Marcell Jansen's penalty was the only difference between the sides in the first leg, but Hamburg's slender lead soon evaporated.

Already without Holland international Ruud van Nistelrooy after the Hamburg striker was ruled out an emotional return to the club where he began his career due to a thigh injury, the visitors were rocked again after 65 seconds when Danko Lazovic played the ball to Toivonen, who tucked in from six yards.

Ibrahim Afellay had an effort from 20 yards turned around the post by Frank Rost as PSV went close to going in front in the tie for the first time.

Dzsudzsak had a right-footed shot from 18 yards blocked and Ze Roberto shot over at the other end for Hamburg, before PSV doubled their lead after 43 minutes.

Robert Tesche fouled Erik Pieters and PSV netted their second on the night to go in front in the tie from the resulting free-kick.

Dzsudzsak's strike flew into the top corner from 30 yards after taking a slight deflection off the Hamburg wall.

Hamburg, however, levelled the tie as PSV conceded their first goal in Europe this season less than a minute after the resumption.

Petric latched onto Trochowski's through ball and expertly lobbed the onrushing Andreas Isaksson.

Dennis Aogo forced Isaksson into a save soon after, before PSV were reduced to 10 men with goalscorer Dzsudzsak shown two yellow cards within two minutes.

Tomas Rincon had an effort turned round the post by Isaksson and David Rozehnal shot over as Hamburg piled on the pressure.

Hamburg's Demel was dismissed for a second yellow card before PSV conceded again after Carlos Salcido brought down Jerome Boateng in the box.

Trochowski converted from 12 yards to leave PSV needing two goals to go through to the next round.

Afellay had an effort saved and then his corner was converted by Koevermans from six yards but it was too late for PSV.
