WTA women's tennis world rankings

The latest WTA world rankings for women's tennis.

Serena Williams has cemented her place at the top of the women's rankings following her fifth Australian Open grand slam title.

The American is 2,715 points in front of former world No 1 Dinara Safina, who was forced to retire in Melbourne with injury in her fourth-round contest against Maria Kirilenko.

Justine Henin, who nearly completed a fairytale return to the sport, but for defeat to Williams in the final at the season-opening grand slam, is not included in this week's rankings.

The Belgian needs to have played in at least three tournaments to qualify. Her appearance at the Australian Open was only her second event back since coming out of a self-imposed 20-month retirement.
