Zvonareva eases into last four

Vera Zvonareva set up a semi-final meeting with Yaroslava Shvedova at the Pattaya Open after beating Sybille Bammer in straight sets.

The Russian cruised through the opening set but was pushed in the second before securing a 6-0 7-6 (7/5) triumph.

She will next meet fourth seed Shvedova, who overcame Tatjana Malek 7-6 (7/4) 6-1.

Two unseeded players have progressed to the last four from the bottom half of the draw.

And one of them - Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn - carries the hopes of the home fans after seeing off Russia's Anna Chakvetadze 6-1 6-4.

Tanasugarn will play Sesil Karatantcheva for a place in the final.

Karatantcheva edged out Ekaterina Bychkova 7-5 4-6 7-5 in a tough encounter today.
