Capitals rally to stun Blackhawks

Nicklas Backstrom's overtime goal saw the Washington Capitals come all the way back from 3-0 down to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3.

The Capitals looked to be in trouble as star Alex Ovechkin was ejected in the first period, and they then fell 3-0 down by the second period.

But they levelled it in the final period before Backstrom capped it.

Quick goals from Pascal Dupuis and Sergei Gonchar helped the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay had led through Vincent Lecavalier's goal, but Dupuis and Gonchar both registered inside three minutes to turn the game around.

The Sedin twins combined to beat the Calgary Flames as brothers Henrik and Daniel set each other up for goals in a 3-1 victory.

Ryan Kesler was also on the scoresheet as Vancouver made it back-to-back wins at home.

The Anaheim Ducks registered their first win in six attempts as they beat the Western Conference-leading San Jose Sharks 4-2.

Teemu Selanne scored his 599th goal in the win, but his night ended early after scary collision with the boards.

Sean Avery returned to grab two goals and lift the New York Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

New York trailed until Avery levelled in the second period. Michal Rozsival put them ahead before Avery capped it, moving the Rangers to within a point of Boston in the Eastern Conference play-off race.

Craig Anderson made 48 saves as the Colorado Avalanche topped the Dallas Stars 5-3.

Paul Stastny scored twice to put another dent in the Stars' play-off hopes.

Patric Hornqvist scored the winner 3:31 from time as the Nashville Predators topped the Los Angeles Kings 3-2.

Steve Sullivan and Colin Wilson also scored for Nashville as they recorded their seventh straight win over the Kings.

Martin Biron made 26 saves to frustrate the Toronto Maple Leafs and help the New York Islanders to a 4-1 win.

Adrian Aucoin got the winner in the shootout as the Phoenix Coyotes topped the Atlanta Thrashers to make it five wins out of five.

Lee Stempniak has been a key catalyst in that run, and scored his sixth goal in the last five games in the win.

Mikko Koivu, Andrew Brunette and Guillaume Latendresse all scored in the opening period to tee up the Minnesota Wild for a 4-2 win over the St Louis Blues.

Koivu added two assists and Josh Harding made 36 saves as the Wild maintained their charge towards the play-off places.
