Kuznetsova crashes out of Indian Wells


Top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova crashed out of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells as she lost to Carla Suarez Navarro.

The Russian committed 69 unforced errors and had seven double-faults as she went down 6-4 4-6 6-1 to the Spaniard, who advances to play Hungary's Agnes Szavay.

Third-seeded Victoria Azarenka made much easier work of dispatching Austria's Sybille Bammer 6-1 7-5, while eighth seed Sam Stosur dispatched Julie Coin of France 6-1 7-6 (6-4).

She will now face 25th seed Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who beat Karolina Sprem 6-3 6-1.

Two-time champion Kim Clijsters, seeded 14th here, beat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-2 6-1.

Italian Flavia Pennetta, seeded ninth, beat Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-3 to set up a meeting with Shahar Peer, the 17th seed who beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-2 6-3.

There were also victories for Anges Szazay, Alisa Kleybanova, Sara Errani, Jelena Jankovic, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, Roberta Vinci, Yanina Wickmayer, and Anastasija Sevastova.
