Another French record for Nadal

Rafael Nadal posted a routine, straight-sets victory over Teimuraz Gabashvili in the French Open to set another record.

The Spaniard, bidding for a fifth successive title in the French capital, won 6-1 6-4 6-2 on Suzanne Lenglen court to set up a third-round meeting with either Lleyton Hewitt or Andrey Golubev.

In beating Gabashvili, Nadal set an all-time record of 30 straight wins at Roland Garros, surpassing Chris Evert's run of 29 which came between 1974-81.

The 22-year-old Mallorcan was not at his best in his opening-round straight-sets win over Marcos Daniel and he hardly improved here, although he had far too much in his locker for his gritty Russian opponent.

Nadal broke in the fourth and sixth games to take the first set in 41 minutes.

One break sufficed in the second set, the world number one demolishing Gabashvili's serve in the ninth game to love as he closed in on victory.

And Nadal went through the gears in the third set to wrap up proceedings in two hours and 17 minutes.
