Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 Detroit

The Chicago Blackhawks edged out the Detroit Red Wings to cut their deficit in the Western Conference finals series to 2-1.

Patrick Sharp scored his second goal 1:52 into overtime at the United Center.

Tallies from Sharp, Andrew Ladd and Sammy Pahlsson had put the Blackhawks into a 3-0 lead at the start of the second period.

But the Red Wings scored three times in 4:23 later in the period through Nicklas Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski and Jonathan Ericsson to level the contest with less than a minute remaining in the session.

But after a goalless third, Chicago's Dustin Byfuglien battled for the puck in front of the net after Matt Walker's shot before Sharp fired home the winner for the Blackhawks, who can level the series at the United Center on Sunday.

Sharp scored on the power play 8:45 into the opening period to break the tie before Ladd beat Chris Osgood less than a minute later to double the lead.

Pahlsson extended the lead 45 seconds into the second after deflecting Duncan Keith's shot through Osgood's legs to put the Blackhawks in control. but Lidstrom's shot deflected off Pahlsson's skate on a power-play at 14:48 to kickstart the Red Wings fightback.

Rafalski's wrist shot from the right circle pulled Detroit to within one at 17:10 before Ericsson tied the contest with 59 seconds left in the period which resulted in Cristobal Huet taking over for Nikolai Khabibulin in goal to Chicago.

Huet saved all six shots he faced after Khabibulin stopped 21, while Osgood made 23 saves for Detroit.
