Siena 2-1 Napoli

Siena extended Napoli's dismal away run to 13 matches without a win thanks to goals from Houssine Kharja and Massimo Maccarone.

Inacio Pia pulled a goal back for the visitors 10 minutes from the end but it was too little too late for Partenopei, who have not won on the road since beating Lazio on October 26.

The win sees Siena move further clear of the bottom three and it was rarely in doubt from the 11th minute when Morocco international Kharja surged from midfield before dispatching a fierce left-foot drive past Napoli goalkeeper Nicolas Navarro.

Maccarone almost doubled their lead in the 14th minute when he shot just over the bar from the edge of the box.

But the former Italy Under-21 international, now 29, did get on the scoresheet nine minutes later when he diverted Juan Zuniga's cross past Navarro.

Argentinian goalkeeper Navarro was alert in the 28th minute to keep out Siena, saving from Emanuele Calaio before the striker was flagged offside.

Maccarone should have made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time after he was found by a great long ball from Manuel Coppola.

Former Italian Under-21 international striker Maccarone beat Fabiano Santacroce but dithered in front of Navarro and the chance was wasted.

The second half continued in similar fashion with Calaio only just failing to get on the end of a fine cross from Daniele Galloppa.

Napoli's first shot on target came in the 69th minute when Jesus Datolo's effort forced a save from Siena keeper Gianluca Curci.

In the 75th minute, Algeria striker Kader Ghezzal rounded Navarro but was denied by Fabiano Santacroce on the Napoli line.

The visitors - who had beaten Serie A leaders Inter Milan 1-0 last time out for their first win under Roberto Donadoni - did get a goal back in the 80th minute when Pia headed in a free-kick from Jesus Datolo.

And the visitors almost snatched a draw in the third minute of stoppage time when Siena needed Daniele Ficagna to block a shot from Datolo.

However, the Tuscan side held on for a deserved win which leaves them 11 points clear of the bottom three.

With just four matches remaining - and third from bottom Bologna playing fellow strugglers Torino and Lecce - the signs are good.
