Two big innings give Dodgers win

The LA Dodgers used a seven-run fourth inning and an eight-run seventh to produced a thumping 16-6 win over the Colorado Rockies.

James Loney, Russell Martin, Juan Castro and Matt Kemp had three hits each and Juan Pierre had a bases-loaded triple for the Dodgers, who matched their season high with 19 hits.

Pierre's triple in the fourth capped the inning in which the Dodgers snapped the 0-0 scoreline. Colorado cut the deficit to one on Troy Tulowitzki's sacrifice fly in the sixth, but that was as close as they came.

Elsewhere, Chase Headley hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning as the San Diego Padres rallied from a six-run deficit to win their 10th straight game, a 9-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Padres trailed 7-1 entering the eighth inning, but scored five in the eighth, one in the ninth and two in the 10th.

Bill Hall ended his one-for-28 slump with a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the St Louis Cardinals.

Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter took a perfect game into the seventh inning, and the Brewers' Yovani Gallardo carried a no-hitter into the sixth before each finished allowing just two hits over eight innings.

Jonny Gomes had three RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds were gifted eight unearned runs in an 8-5 win over the Houston Astros, and last-minute lineup addition Travis Ishikawa had a three-run homer among his career-high four hits as the San Francisco Giants saw off the Atlanta Braves 8-2.

Wes Helms homered and drove in four runs for as the Florida Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3, and the New York Mets needed a video review before Gary Sheffield`s tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth inning was upheld to help them to a 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals.

And finally the Pittsburgh Pirates used a three-run sixth inning to edge past the Chicago Cubs 10-8. Freddy Sanchez had the Pirates' first six-hit game in 19 years, scoring four runs and driving in three more.
