Arsene Wenger will give Cesc Fabregas greater licence to get forward and attack this season in the belief that his captain can contribute a significant number of goals to Arsenal's season.
With Alex Song and Denilson earmarked to provide the midfield screen in front of the back four, Fabregas has the freedom to break forward from a central position and began his season on Saturday with two goals in the 6-1 win over Everton.
He is a slight doubt for tonight's Champions League first leg qualifier against Celtic after suffering a tightening of his hamstring against Everton, but is expected to again play in an advanced midfield role.
"I don't want to put too much pressure on him but he can score goals – he has power in finishing," said Wenger.
"He is always in interesting situations offensively and he scored goals as a young boy. He has more licence to get forward." Wenger said there were still improvements to be made both defensively and offensively despite the demolition of Everton and has particularly praised the spirit within his young squad.
"I never felt there was an issue spirit-wise at the club or within the team," he said. "I felt that always we had a good spirit but it's something that is difficult to measure when you aren't living every day in the dressing room. You do not always know everything.
"We have a united spirit but you have to take care of your attitude and the players have to take care of the spirit because it is as fragile as the weather in England, quickly cloudy. It's strange because when you have no attitude or spirit, you have no results and when you have results, you can also lose it quickly.
"But I believe we have a good attitude and a strong togetherness and that came out at Everton."
Denilson and Bacary Sagna are also doubtful tonight while Theo Walcott is to have a scan on his back injury after failing a fitness test for the match yesterday morning. "It was not positive at all," said Wenger.
"He had to stop. The injury happened before England played Holland. The England medical staff didn't send him back to us because they thought it would be possible for him to play. "
