Stuttgart 0-0 Nurnberg

Nurnberg are still searching for their first Bundesliga victory of the season following a goalless draw at Stuttgart on Saturday.

The visitors slipped a place to 17th after failing to find a way past Stuttgart goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who was free to play after escaping punishment for a clash with Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic last weekend.

The former Germany international was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the early stages at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, getting down well in the 12th minute to keep out a low shot from Dario Vidosic.

Midway through the first half, Peer Kluge delivered a set-piece onto the head of Angelos Charisteas, only for the Greek to head wide of Lehmann's left-hand upright.

The home team's best opportunity of the opening period came three minutes before the break when Thomas Hitzlsperger laid the ball off for Jan Simak, but the Czech's right-footed effort flew wide.

The second half was an equally cagey affair with clear-cut chances at a premium.

Lehmann saved comfortably from Vidosic 12 minutes after the restart as the visitors continued to push for the victory to add to the solitary point they had coming into this game.

Stuttgart substitute Alexander Hleb, who missed the midweek Champions League qualifier against Timisoara, set up Timo Gebhart midway through the second period but his shot from outside the area was blocked.

Elson then broke quickly on the counter-attack for the hosts and slid a pass through to Sami Khedira, but the midfielder failed to direct his effort on target.

The final chance of the match went the way of the visitors in the 90th minute, but again the goalkeeper was not tested as Javier Pinola fired narrowly wide of Lehmann's left-hand post.
