Bari poured misery on struggling Atalanta by handing out a sound thrashing to the visitors.
Emmanuel Rivas and Paulo Vito Barreto grabbed two goals in the space of three minutes early in the game and Edgar Alvarez made it 3-0 six minutes before the break.
Bari could have had more as Barreto missed a penalty early in the second half, so it fell to former Atalanta player Massimo Donati to stick the knife in his former club just after the hour mark, with Gianpaolo Bellini's late strike for Atalanta scant consolation for a club still seeking their first points of the season.
Bari dominated the game from start to finish, and needed less than a minute to create their first chance as Barreto sent a diving header just wide after Rivas broke down the left wing.
The opening goal was only six minutes away, with Rivas going alone this time to weave his way through the defence and fire into the top corner of the net.
Two minutes later, Bari doubled their lead as Barreto fired a right-footed shot beyond the reach of Andrea Consigli.
The visitors, looked disorganised and shockingly short on fight so early in the season, but got a rare sight of goal in the 18th minute as Robert Acquafresca turned to shoot from the edge of the area, only to see Jean Francois Gillet get down to keep the ball out.
Bari quickly resumed normal service, with Alvarez racing down the left to cross for Barreto, who saw his header well saved.
There was nothing the goalkeeper could do in the 39th minute though as Barreto picked out the run of Alvarez who went one on one with Consigli and coolly slotted the ball home.
Substitute Antonio Langella tumbled under the challenge of Jose Talamonti early in the second half, but Consigli was able to save a weak penalty from Barreto.
It would have no bearing on the result, however, as Consigli could only parry Riccardo Meggiorini's shot and Donati was on hand to slot home into an empty net.
Things got worse for Atalanta as Talamonti limped off with all three substitutions already made, but they at least got themselves a goal - their first of the season - six minutes from time as Bellini turned well on the edge of the area to lash the ball home.
They had a chance of a second in the final minute as Bellini's cross picked out Acquafresca, but he sent his header over from the edge of the area.
The victory is Bari's first of the season, but they are making a good start to life in Serie A and are unbeaten after four games, moving up to eighth place.
Atalanta, in contrast, are in a mess, with nothing to show from their four matches and pressure mounting on boss Angelo Gregucci.
