Seventh seed Andreas Beck safely negotiated his first-round clash with Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round of the Open de Moselle in Metz.
Germany's Beck came through the match 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes.
In today's other match another German Bjorn Phau edged compatriot Rainer Schuettler 7-6 (7/1) 7-6 (7/5).
