Heptathlon world champion Jessica Ennis is likely to skip next year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi to concentrate on the European Championships.
"I'm leaning towards the Europeans at the moment," said Ennis after finishing fifth in the sprint hurdles at the British Grand Prix.
"With the heptathlon, you can't compete in everything. It would be very hard to peak in July and again in October."
London 2012 is Ennis’ main long-term aim, and she will be wary of overextending herself after being ruled out of the Beijing Games with a triple stress fracture.
The 23-year-old claimed gold at the World Championships in Berlin two weeks ago, leading from the first event to the last in the Olympic Stadium to win with a personal best points haul of 6,731. And she says her increased profile will not have a negative effect.
"I know [the expectation] is going to be absolutely massive when it comes around to 2012, but at least I know I have that ability to control it and to still pull out a performance," she told The Guardian.
"It was nice to have the pressure of these championships as well, so I got a taste for it.
"There were a lot of articles written and everyone was kind of pinning everything on me to do really well out there. It was nice to deal with that pressure and experience it."
