Peng maiden title tilt continues

Peng Shuai maintained her pursuit of a maiden WTA title after beating Alexandra Panova 6-2 6-3, to reach the Guangzhou Open semi-finals.

Third seed Peng was broken just once as the world number 48 advanced to her first semi-final of the season in 80 minutes.

The 23-year-old lost to Vera Zvonareva in Guangzhou last year and will look to reach her fourth career final in tomorrow's last four meeting against fifth seed Shahar Peer.

Israel's Peer, who is seeking a first title since 2006 after losing in Memphis in 2007, also needed just two sets to dispose of ninth seed Chan Yung-jan of Taiwan 6-3 6-1 in 77 minutes.

Japan`s Ayumi Morita, the seventh seed, beat Ukrainian Olga Savchuk 6-3 6-4 in just over an hour and a half, while unseeded world number 95 Anastasija Sevastova`s run was ended as eighth seed Alberta Brianti posted a 6-4 6-2 win.

Latvian Sevastova, 19, advanced to her first career quarter-final after fighting back from a set down to beat top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues.
