Sebastian Vettel led home a Red Bull one-two finish at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the first to start in daylight and end at night, with world champion Jenson Button finishing in third.
The 22 year-old German beat Australian Mark Webber by a comfortable 17.8 seconds under the floodlights for his fourth win of the season to make sure of second place overall in the championship.
Briton Button, who clinched the title in the previous Brazilian Grand Prix for his championship-winning Brawn GP team, rounded off his season with a podium place after hunting down Webber and chasing him nose-to-tail in the closing laps.
It was Button's first podium place for only the second time since the sixth of his wins in the seventh race of the year in Turkey.
"Coming away with a podium is a nice way to finish the year. Now I'm going to enjoy myself and celebrate what I've done," Button said.
"I just want to enjoy this moment, and then I'll look to the future after that."
Vettel's win, meanwhile, which saw him finish 11 points of Button in the race for the title, owed much to Lewis Hamilton's misfortune. Hamilton was forced to retire on lap 20 with car failure having got off to a solid start from the front of the grid.
Brazilian veteran Rubens Barrichello, meanwhile, finished fourth in his expected last outing for Brawn.
German Nick Heidfeld marked his last race for the departing Sauber BMW team by taking fifth ahead of Japanese Kamui Kobayashi, who secured his first points in Formula One in a Toyota in only his second race after replacing the injured Timo Glock.
Italian veteran Jarno Trulli finished seventh for Toyota and Swiss Sebastien Buemi, who was 21 on Saturday, took the final point in eighth place for Toro Rosso.
