Bangladesh claim Plate Championship

Bangladesh thrashed Ireland by 195 runs to win the ICC U-19 World Cup Plate Championship and secure the ninth place in the tournament.

Bangladesh batsmen came up with a brilliant collective display to post a massive total of 307 for six, while a hat-trick by seam bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi never gave Ireland any chance.

After put in to bat by Ireland, Bangladesh batters played fine knocks besides building good partnerships.

Mominul Haque (81) and captain Mahmudul Hasan (52) put up 119-run stand together.

Thereafter Shabbir Rahman (47 off 28) and Noor Hossain (31 off 12) took their team's score past 300-run mark.

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie claimed four for 59.

Bangladesh's opening bowler Alauddin Babu never let Ireland settle down as he broke their backbone with early three wickets to reduce them to 39 for five.

And from there on they could not recover. Thanks to Ben Ackland's unbeaten 34, Ireland total reached three figures before they got all out for 112 in 38.5 overs.

Canada secure 11th place

Meanwhile, Canada got the better of Papua New Guinea by two wickets in the U-19 World Cup 11th place play-off.

Three-wicket hauls from Parth Desai and Nitish Kumar helped Canada bundle out PNG for 145.

Although opener Heni Siaka top-scored with 50 and shared a fine 65-run opening stand with Lega Tau but the other batsmen failed to make any mark. Only four PNG batters managed to reach double-figures as Canada kept taking wickets frequently.

While chasing a modest total, Canada were reduced to 26 for three. It was pacer Raymond Haoda, whose double-strike helped PNG fight back.

But Nitish Kumar (38) and Usman Limbada (21) chipped in with valuable contributions, while Arsalan Qadir made a patient 18 off 45 balls to take Canada home with five balls to spare.
