Wolfsburg 2-3 Cologne

Armin Veh may have coached his final game with Wolfsburg as the reigning champions lost at home to Cologne.

Kevin Pezzoni opened the scoring for Cologne in the seventh minute before Christian Gentner equalised in the 21st minute.

Sebastian Freis again pushed the visitors ahead after 57 minutes only to see Ricardo Costa equalise two minutes later, but Adil Chihi struck the winner with 16 minutes to play.

Wolfsburg now have the second-worst defence in the league with 38 goals conceded and they remain on 24 points in 10th place - 10 points from the European places.

Serious questions are now being asked about Veh's future at the club.

But as poor a result as it was for Wolfsburg, this was a vital three points for relegation-threatened Cologne, who arrived without star strikers Lukas Podolski and Milivoje Novakovic, but left four points above the drop zone.

They had the lead after just seven minutes, as Chihi's corner from the left found Pezzoni and the midfielder beat Josue to the ball to head home.

Wolfsburg then had to replace goalkeeper Diego Benaglio with Andre Lenz, and the new stopper was quickly into the action as he picked off Freis' cross just in front of Chihi.

Wolfsburg were level in the 21st minute as Geromel failed to clear Andrea Barzagli's header and Gentner took advantage, pouncing on the loose ball from six yards.

The hosts looked back to their best early in the second half, but were then sucker-punched on the counter-attack 12 minutes after the break.

It was not pretty, as Freis battled his way past one defender before seeing Barzagli's clearance crash into him, but he kept his balance to beat the goalkeeper.

But Wolfsburg quickly levelled as Colombian goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon came off his line and failed to gather the ball. Geromel blocked Edin Dzeko's shot but Costa pounced on the rebound.

Cologne nabbed a third 16 minutes from time as Freis ran on to Taner Yalcin's pass and crossed for Chihi who finished from close range.

Dzeko missed a fine opportunity to tie the game with six minutes remaining as the Bosnian placed his header from six yards directly into Mondragon's arms.
