Napoli and Inter Milan shared the spoils at the Stadio San Paolo to conclude the 24th round of matches in Serie A.
Napoli had enough chances to win several games and struck the woodwork twice on a frustrating night against the defending champions.
Inter also hit the frame of the goal and improved in the second half to claim a point which extends their lead over second-placed Roma to seven points while Napoli move back up to fourth and keep their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League alive.
At a San Paolo packed to the rafters, Napoli have often been able to find an extra gear and that was the case once again against Jose Mourinho's men.
With only 10 minutes on the clock, Marek Hamsik had the fans on their feet with a shot which cannoned back off the crossbar.
The rebound bounced too high for German Denis to be able to shoot instantly into the empty goal as Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar was still on the ground, and by the time he did gain control, the Inter defence had recovered.
Fabio Quagliarella had the next chance for a buoyant Napoli, but he shot into the sidenetting from an angle.
Julio Cesar then made a stunning save to deny Denis, who headed Hamsik's cross powerfully towards the Inter goal.
Inter were up against it, but they almost went ahead when Sulley Muntari hit the angle of post and crossbar with a perfectly-struck 25-yard angled shot which had Morgan De Sanctis well beaten.
David Santon then put Hamsik off as he prepared to shoot at the end of a half dominated by the home side.
Inter realised the best form of defence was to attack and Goran Pandev missed his side's best chance of the game in the 62nd minute.
He had plenty of time to settle himself and set up a shot from just inside the penalty area, but rather than finding one of the corners, he shot straight at a very relieved De Sanctis.
This chance shook Napoli back into action and they hit the woodwork for a second time in the 65th minute when Quagliarella's 20-yard volley rebounded off the post.
Again, it fell to Denis and, again, the Napoli striker wasted the opportunity, lifting his shot over the crossbar from level with the penalty spot.
Denis was caught off-balance when he lifted the ball over Julio Cesar a minute later and Walter Samuel managed to clear the danger before the Argentinian striker could get back to his feet and put the ball into an open goal.
And it clearly wasn't going to be Napoli's night when Hamsik's 79th-minute volley from the edge of the area fell the wrong side of the post with Julio Cesar beaten.
