Seongnam got their Asian Champions League Group E campaign off to a good start with a 2-0 triumph over Kawasaki Frontale.
Mauricio Molina gave the hosts a first-half lead and created the second as the K-League side downed last season's quarter-finalists.
The Colombian created Seongnam's first chance when he sent Dzenan Radoncic clear but, with only keeper Eiji Kawashima to beat, the Montenegrin could not hit the target.
However, Molina broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Radoncic fed the unmarked Colombian inside the box and he applied a low finish.
The duo combined again 12 minutes from time when Molina made progress down the left flank and crossed for Radoncic and he turned Hiroki Ito before firing into the roof of the net from six yards.
Joel Griffiths' second-half goal proved the difference as Beijing Guoan edged out Melbourne Victory 1-0 at Beijing Workers' Stadium.
The Australian had nearly given the hosts the lead in the 34th minute when he met Xu Liang's corner but Surat Sukha cleared his header off the line.
However, Griffiths netted what proved to be the winner six minutes after the break when he controlled Zhu Yifan's cross, beat Kevin Muscat and curled a shot past keeper Mitchell Langerak.
