Castleford produced a stirring second-half fightback in their engage Super League opener to stun champions Leeds 24-10 on Friday.

Joe Westerman, Brent Sherwin and Dean Widders all touched down as the Tigers recovered from a 10-6 interval deficit on a misty night at Headingley Carnegie.

Leeds shaded the first half of a hard-fought encounter with new signing Brett Delaney restoring an advantage after James Evans cancelled out Danny McGuire's opener.

But it was a different story after the break as the Tigers dominated possession and claimed a deserved win against their derby rivals.

Reigning Man of Steel Brett Hodgson produced a fine display to help Huddersfield run out comfortable 24-12 winners against Bradford in their season opener at the Galpharm Stadium.

A double from Leroy Cudjoe, both laid on by man-of-the-match Hodgson, and a Shaun Lunt score saw the Giants race into a commanding 16-0 lead.

But tries from Stuart Reardon and Rikki Sheriffe before the interval halved the deficit.

A converted score from new Giants signing David Fa'alogo and penalty from Hodgson shortly after the interval ultimately proved enough to put the visitors to the sword.

Wigan showed no mercy to former coach Brian Noble as they took his Crusaders team apart in ruthless fashion at the DW Stadium to give his successor Michael Maguire the perfect start to his reign with a 38-6 win.

Crusaders gave Leeds a run for their money for an hour of their opening game last week but it was largely one-way traffic from the start on Friday night as the Warriors showed their class in front of a 13,680 crowd.

Full-back Cameron Phelps was the star of the show, creating two and scoring one of his side's seven tries, while winger Amos Roberts grabbed a brace to pile on the agony for Noble, whose side now know what to expect this year.
