Siena showed their willingness to scrap for their Serie A survival as they extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
Alberto Malesani's side remain bottom of the table but only five points off safety. They fell behind to a goal from Jonathan Biabiany against the run of play in the 34th minute but Simone Vergassola equalised for the Tuscan side with 20 minutes to go.
Siena made the brighter start to the match as defender Francesco Pratali headed wide following a free-kick from the left in the third minute.
Parma, who have endured a pretty miserable 2010 so far, were threatened again when Siena striker Massimo Maccarone volleyed wide in the ninth minute. Malesani's men were a whisker away from taking the lead on the half-hour mark when Alexandros Tziolis' effort from Vergassola's corner hit the crossbar.
Four minutes later Siena found themselves behind when Daniele Galloppa's cross from the left was brilliantly headed home by Frenchman Biabiany. Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci was called on just before the break to deny Hernan Crespo a second goal for the Gialloblu.
Parma hit the woodwork themselves three minutes into the second period when Stefano Morrone let fly from 25 yards and his shot rattled Curci's crossbar.
Cristian Zaccardo missed another chance a minute later and in the 53rd minute Francesco Valiani fired a presentable opportunity wide of the target.
Siena were searching for inspiration from somewhere and Emanuele Calaio headed a chance off target in the 62nd minute.
Vergassola finally provided the equaliser when he received Marcelo Larrondo's ball from the right and his low right-footed shot found the left-hand corner of the net.
The momentum swung even further in Siena's favour when Luis Jimenez was sent off for a second bookable offence with 11 minutes to go, having tripped Tziolis.
Vergassola was involved in most of Siena's best attacking moments and he provided the cross which almost resulted in the Bianconeri's winner.
With seconds remaining, his ball in from the left was met by the head of Larrondo but his close-range effort somehow squirmed wide.
The result dropped Parma to 14th, and Francesco Guidolin's side still have just one win to their name in 2010.
A season which looked so promising as 2009 came to a close now looks set to be more of a struggle, with the club desperate to avoid a swift return to Serie B.
