Bochum grabbed the lead 21 minutes later as Wolfsburg defender Andrea Barzagli could not collect a ball into the area. Freier collected the pass, turned inwards and placed his left-foot shot into the left corner.
The home side equalised on the hour mark with Marcel Schaefer crossing from the left to Dzeko, who struck a left-foot volley into the far right corner.
Wolfsburg claimed the lead in the 76th minute thanks to two substitutes. Makoto Hasebe crossed from the right side into the area where Martins hit a first-time shot past Bochum goalkeeper Philipp Heerwagen.
Dzeko scored his second goal of the game with 11 minutes left, converting a penalty after being brought down by Heerwagen.
And Santana joined the scoring party in the 90th minute for the hosts to complete the win.
